With a comrade he established and maintained telephonic communications under conditions which rendered their work almost impossible owing to the extreme danger to which they were subjected. Heavy and direct machine gun fire, hostile barrage, and aeroplane bombardments were continuously directed upon them, but in spite of all, these two very gallant men continued to patrol the line and effect repairs which were constantly becoming necessary, thus maintaining communication between the front line and battalion headquarters at a most critical time. Their Splendid determination and fearless devotion to duty cannot be too highly praised. |
