| Citation: | Belgium. Citation for the Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm: During the Battles in the Ardennes, in excessive cold and under extreme conditions of discomfort this NCO for several days, carried out Point Duty and general assistance to advancing troops on a cross roads in LA ROCHE. For the greater part of this time, the cross roads upon which L/Cpl Irwin was on duty, was under heavy shell and mortar fire.
