Pension documents marked deceased together with a note 28/5/17 developed TB of the lung 4 days after admission. He was in the torpedoed "Gloucester Castle" and suffered 3 hours immersion on his way over to England. (His Majesty's Hospital Ship Gloucester Castle was torpedoed off the Isle of Wight 31/3/1917 by German U Boat UB 32. The ship was salvaged and put back into service. In WWII it was sunk off Angola by the German Auxiliary Cruiser Michel.

Info from widows'pension sheet W F. 25 28/1/1915 enlisted, 3/7/1917 discharged no longer physically fit for war service, pulmonary tuberculosis aggrevated by service. 3/3/1919 he died at 2 Waltham Road, Woodford Bridge, gives details of 5 children, 6/6/1919 widow recerived a pension of 13/9 per week and the children 24/2 per week.
