FINE WORK IN THE FACE OF DIFFICULTIES.
Corporal Frank Miles, of the Military Mounted Police, on the Gallipoli Peninsular, writing to a friend at Bramley, says:- "We had a very stiff job, as the Turks were very strongly entrenched on both the beach and cliffs, but our fellows went at them like mad horses and eventually drove them inland. They made a very determined attempt to capture the lost ground, but we successfully held them at bay and a very good job we did so, as it was a case of being between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Since then we have been gradually working our way forward, although we have had one or tow very hard battles, but there has been a continuous bombardment on both sides and as I write shrapnel bullets are flying around."
