Citation: North West Europe. Citation for MID: From the 16th July 1944 until 5th May 1945 this Warrant Officer has been responsible for the recording and scientific departments of this unit. His efficiency, devotion to duty, and unstinting self-sacrifice has enabled us under almost impossible conditions to use these methods of Crime Detection with great success. His unquestionable ability, and his willingness at all times to assist others, has earned him the respect and appreciation of all who served with him. No case was ever too big or too small for him. The persistancy of his work during the period stated has resulted in the detection of hundreds of crimes, ranging from Murder, Rape and War-Crimes to Larceny. He is a brilliant detective and has been an inspiration to all who have sought his assistance. An outstanding example of his work was the suspected murder of a soldier at Eindhoven on the 26th April 1945. With this knowledge of Ballistics, a masterpiece of crime-reconstruction and cleverly selected photographs of the reconstruction, he was able to prove beyond doubt, that the soldier died of his own hand. Thereby removing strong suspicions that rested on certain personnel of this soldiers's unit.Capt W T Jones DAPM 73 SIS. Brig G S Knight Comd 21 L of C Sub Area. Maj-Gen C Surtees Comd HQ L of C.
