MR W J P GODLEY
The many friends of Mr William John Parsons Godley, of 1, Queens Road, Aldershot heard with regret of his death, which took place suddenly on Tuesday. He was 69 years of age. Born at Harwich, he joined the Essex Regiment when he was 18 years old, and later transferred to the Military Foot Police, in which he served until 1914. He saw service in the South African War. Rejoining on the outbreak of war in 1914, he served with the Corps until 1919. On demobilization he was appointed a park keeper at Regent's Park, and continued in that appointment until he retired on reaching the age of 65 years. "Bill" Godley was a keen supporter of the Aldershot Football Club, and for many years did duty on the "players' and Officials'" gate at the Recreation Ground, when ever Aldershot were playing at home. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
