Two Court martial prisoners have broken out of the Cambridge (Military) Hospital, Aldershot, where they were under medical treatment. information of their escape was sent to the Provost-Marshal, who ordered parties to search for the fugitives, who were captured by Sergeant-Major Leonard, of the Corps of Military Police. He found them disguised and concealed in a house, prepared for a journey. One of the prisoners is a driver in the Royal Engineers, the other a private in the Royal Irish Fusilier. An Old Soldier Honoured. Sergeant Major Leonard, who has just taken his discharge after nearly 30 years service , and who is the fourth oldest cavalry Sergeant Major and warrant officer in the British Army, was tat Aldershot yesterday presented with a diamond ring, a travelling clock, and a fitted travelling trunk, the subscribers to which were his comrades of the British Military Police at all stations at home and abroad. Leonard was the first Sergeant Major of the Military Foot Police and he was with Lord Roberts in Africa, where he was in charge of the police and won the praise of the Commander in Chief and other Generals. The presentation was made in the presence of the whole of the Military and Foot Police now stationed in Aldershot. |
