Extract from the Globe, 10/8/1907. MILITARY MOUNTED POLICE FOR NAIROBI.
Orders have been issued at Aldershot, the headquarters of the Corps of Military police, for a detachment of the Mounted Branch, consisting of Sergt. Rogers and 14 non-commissioned officers (corporals and lance corporals) to be in readiness to leave Aldershot on the 14th inst. for Dover, and there embark for Mombassa, en route for the town of Nairobi. There are of course native regiments there, but this will be the first time that British troops have been quartered in the town. It is stated at Aldershot that this is the outcome of the disgraceful way our people were treated over the flogging business. The town, which is surrounded by bush, holds but a handful of white residents.
