| Citation: | New Year Honours. 19 January 1938 to the present day. RSM, MCTC, Colchester.Citation: RSM HITCHCOCK enlisted as a Boy Apprentice in the Royal Engineers on 19 Jan 1939. He completed his apprentice training on 25 November 1941 and served with various RE units in UK. He took part in fighting in North West Europe from 6 June 1944 until May 1945 when he transferred to MPSC. His service in MPSC has taken him to BAOR, JAPAN, HONG KONG, and since 1959 to the MCTC, COLCHESTER. He was promoted Sergeant in 1945, WOII in 1953 and WOI in March, 1959, and was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in October 1956. He has now been RSM of the Military Corrective Training Centre, COLCHESTER the most senior appointment in the Military Provost Staff Corps since February 1961. This involves not only the day to day running of the Military Corrective Training Centre, but the handling of approximately one hundred WOs and senior NCOs. Since his appointment he has worked untiringly, both during official hours and in his own time to improve the efficiency of the Centre. The high standards of turnout, just discipline and man management attained by the NCOs and WOs of this Centre is in no small measure due to the example, work and guidance of RSM HITCHCOCK. His own conduct, both in his official and private life is exemplary and sets the standard for all. In him are personified the best qualities of a good regular Warrant Officer; devotion to duty, loyalty to his superiors, scrupulous fairness in dealings with those under him, and the ability willingly to carry out his orders to the letter even though he may not be in agreement with them. Throughout the time he has held his present appointment RSM HITCHCOCK has demonstrated how fully he has the interests of the Army, his Corps and this Centre at the art, and he has been unswerving in his loyalty and unfailing in his efficiency. It is considered that this Warrant Officer fully deserves the award of the MBE in recognition of both his long and outstanding service to the MPSC as a whole and the MCTC COLCHESTER in particular.Recommended by: Commandant, MCTC, Colchester, PM (Army), Maj-Gen, Director of Personal Services, War Office. |
