Citation: | France. First Army Routine Order No.942 - Act of Courage, d/-9-5-1917. The General Officer Commanding wishes to express his appreciation of the following Act of Courage on the part of No. P/2786, L/Cpl. R. Armstrong, Military Foot Police:-At about 12-45pm on 20th April, 1917, at Bruay, a horse attached to a two-wheeled cart bolted up the Rue Nationale. Lce. -Cpl. Armstrong seized the reins near the horse's head, and after being dragged about 20 yards, brought the runaway to a standstill. By his prompt action Lce.-Cpl. Armstrong no doubt averted an accident as there was a considerable amount of traffic on the road. A record of the above will be made in the Regimental Conduct Sheet of L/Cpl. R.
