Citation: Unit War Diary 332 Company Vulnerable Points CMP WO 166/13705.ACT OF GALLANTRY. The following in an extract from Northern command Order No. 878/43: "The gallant conduct of 1126857 L/Cpl E Janes (Hemel Hempstead) 2373034 Pte E C Shimmens (Norwich), and 11002056 Pte. E T Gee (Northampton, all of 332 Coy VP CMP has been brought to the notice of the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief. In March 1943 an aircraft crashed and burst into flames. In spite of imminent danger from exploding ammunition L/Cpl Janes, Pte Shimmens and Pte Gee promptly went to the aid of the crew and succeeded in extricating four of them from the aircraft.
