Citation: | C in C's Commendation: During the night 26/27 Nov 61 Cpl Lee was called to Caithness Barracks, Verden, where there was a soldier on the roof threatening to throw himself off. Cpl Lee gained access to the roof through the trap door of a small wooden structure which stood about seven feet high above the roof. From there he could see the man lying about twenty feet away astride the roof. He was unable to use his hands and appeared to be in great danger of falling off. Without hesitation Cpl Lee sung himself over the edge of the wooden structure and was lowered to the roof. He then inched his way along to the man. When Cpl Lee reached him the soldier tried to put his hands on Lee's shoulders and looked as though he would grapple with him. With extreme calmness Cpl Lee put the soldier's hands back on the roof, gave him a cigarette and sat talking to him. After a few minutes Cpl Lee dragged him back to the wooden structure, got himself behind the man and hoisted him up the side of the box so that he could be pulled in through the trap door. The roof was sixty feet high and only six inches at its apex. It had been raining hard, the roof was very cold and slippery. By showing complete disregard for his own safety and great courage Cpl Lee averted an almost certain tragedy. The Commander-in-Chief directs that an entry should be made in the Regimental Conduct Sheet of the above named in accordance with Queen's Regulations paragraph 1633 (0).Extract from B.A.O.R. G.R.O.
