Army officials were today investigating reports that a British soldier had been killed in southern Iraq.
Major Neil Greenwood,m a spokesman for British forces in Iraq said: "We are aware of an incident last night. We are currently investigating."
According to reports one soldier was killed and a second was injured in the incident, which happened five days after Major Matthew Titchener, from Southport, Merseyside; Warrant Officer Colin Wall, 34, from Crawleyside. Co. Durham; and Corporal Dewi Pritchard, 35 from Bridgend, South Wales died when the civilian jeep they were travelling in came under fire in Basra.

A Soldier killed in Iraq was being buried with full military honours today.
Corporal Dewi Pritchard, 35, from Bridgend south Wales, die when he was ambushed in Basra last month.
The soldier's body was flown into RAF Brize Norton earlier this week.
Cpl Pritchard, Major Matthew Titchener, 32, from Southport, Merseyside and Warrant Officer Colin Wall, 34 from Crawleyside, Co. Durham, died when their rented civilian jeep was ambushed in Basra on August 23.
