Notes: | MMP Awarded the Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 1/3/17. On the morning of March 21st, 1918, this NCO was detailed for supervising patrol between battle stragglers' posts at Hesbecourt and IIavcourt. Both these posts were very heavily shelled, and Sergt. Fortescue carried out his duties in very praiseworthy fashion. His horse was wounded in the leg by a shell splinter and, after taking it back to Mountigny, Sergt. Fortescue returned to his post, dismounted and remained until posts were withdrawn towards evening. Recommendation for MM by APM 66th Division. No awards found in London Gazette. |
