A Soldier's Wedding - The Revd. J F Wilson (Vicar) officiated at the wedding at St. Thomas's Church, Stafford on Sunday, of Lancer Corporal Neville Welch, of the RAMC, only son of Mrs. Welch, of 24 Doxey, Stafford and Doreen Jane Dodd, adopted daughter of Mr. George Tansley, of 11, Doxey, Stafford. The bride, who was given away by Mr. Ken Williams, was attended by four bridesmaids - the misses Margaret Dodd (sister), Joan Moore, Margery Dodd (sister), Joan Moore, Margery Jones and Lily Hanlon, The duties of best man were carried out by Corporal Fred Dodd, of the Canadian contingent, a brother of the bride. A reception was afterwards held by Mrs Welch at 24 Doxey, Stafford. Extract from the Stafford Newsletter - Friday, April 29, 1977. Funeral of Local Licensee. A funeral service was held at Stafford Crematorium last week for Vine Hotel landlord Neville Welch, who died in the Royal Masonic Hospital, London, age 58. Mr Welch who was born and bred in Stafford, joined the police force for a shot time after wartime service in the Army, which he left as a regimental sergeant major. Mr Welch ran pubs in the Cannock area before moving to the Nesbitt Army, Rising Brook, where he stayed for many years before moving to the Vine two years ago. He leaves a wife, a son and daughter. |
