Extract from the Aberdeen Evening Express, 21/12/1953, ELLON NCO KILLED IN SINGAPORE.
A young Ellon man, Lance Corporal Charles Morrison, was killed when his vehicle rolled over coming down a steep hill at Gillman Barracks, Singapore, The Army authorities announced today.
Corporal Morrison was the son of Mrs j Beekie, West Cassie Gills, Ellon, and a stepson of Mr James Beekie.
He was a military policeman and had been in Malaya for a year and a half.
Joined the Gordon's. He was serving his time as a millwright with Messrs Alland Brothers (Aberdeen) Ltd, when he gave this up to join the Army two years ago
He joined the Gordon Highlanders and was stationed for a time at Fort George. he was attached to the 200th Provost Company, Royal Military Police.
Corporal Morrison was a keen Scout while in Ellon, and was a member of the local Rover Scout troop. He was also an enthusiastic mountaineer and had climbed in various parts of Scotland and the Alps.
