Mr and Mrs M'Kay, 5 Hawardent Terrace, Perth, have received word that their son, L/Cpl R M'Kay, is a prisoner of war in Germany. He was posted missing on June 3. L/Cpl M'Kay is with the Corps of Military Police is 22 years of age, and worked with M'Kay, decorators, Perth. He attended Dundee Technical college for a short time. Extract from Perthshire Advertiser, 31/8/40. Another prisoner of war L/cpl R Mackay (22) Corps of Military Police has written to his parents Mr and Mrs P Mackay, 5 Hawarden Terrace, Jeanfield, Perth, telling them that he is "quite well and OK". His postcard from the camp where he is held captive adds: "I don't want you to worry, but just to keep your chin up, and It will not be long before I'm home". An only son, L/Cpl Mackay went to France in January and had been missing since the evacuation from Dunkirk. In civil life he was employed with MacKay Decorators (Perth) Ltd. Extract from the Perthshire Advertiser, 18/7/1942. A Prisoners Praise. Gratitude to the Red Cross is expressed in a letter written by L/Cpl Robert S Mackay, Corps of Military Police to his parents, Mr and Mrs P Mackay, 5 Hawarden Terrace, Perth. A prisoner in Stalag XXB since his capture at St Valery with the 51 Division. L/Cpl Mackay writes of the regularity with which the Red Cross parcels arrive, saying: "I don't think I shall ever forget the Red Cross Society for what they have done for us here" He declares that he is comparatively well off in the camp; better, in fact than some who live in the German village in which the camp is situated. Cigarettes and mail reach Stalag XXB frequently. |
