No. POW Camps: Stalag VIIIB from 7/40 to 1/41, Stalag 334, Lamdorf, 1/41 to 5/44 and 4/44 to 1/45. Were you in a working camp ? Did you suffer from any serious illnesses while a PW ? Yes, Kidney trouble, cause electric stamper, from 1942 to 1943. Did you receive adequate medical treatment ? No but later fair treatment. No., Interrogation after capture:- (Abbeville) Yes, The enemy insisted that i had been on a scouting party, also asked where our tank battalions had landed. They took from me all my personal documents, money, AB 64. Showed me maps and said our troops were finished. Escape attempts ? I helped three men escape in 12/43 from Oppeln, These men reached home via Stetting and Sweden. I escaped alone from Oppeln at 11.30 am, 23/4/44 and reached Stettin after making a train journeyed. I dyed my army uniform and had a civilian coat. I had not papers and was ill with sleeping on the dockside. Sabotage: At Oppeln I did small sabotage or destruction for three years, Damaged mixing machines, electric motors, water pumps, burned timber and belt machinery running to waste electricity. At Wigstein I destroyed blankets on the cardboard machines. Have you any other matters of any kind you wish to bring to notice ? Yes, when staying at hotel Astoria, Prague a man professing to be Polish was sending notes written in German to all English and American POW's. One of the things he said was "All English prisoners in Poland are being interned by the Russians." I am of the opinion this man is a Russian Agent, sending info to British troops on different subjects. All information I gave him was "Thanks for the drink I had with him."
26/7/48 He was awarded the 1939 - 1945 Star, War Medal. He has a second medal card showing same medals.
