A Long service and Good Conduct Medal was presented this week to one of the members of the staff of the Shepton Mallet Military Prison. He was Sergeant F Hadfield who received the medal from Brig. G F Upjohn, Inspector of Military Establishments from the War Office, on Tuesday at a special parade. Sgt Hadfield joined the Army in 1942 at the age of 22 and he entered the General Service corps of the Army and later the Royal Artillery. From 1943 until 1946 he served with the British North African forces and the Central Mediterranean and at Arnhem. He has served on the staff at Shepton Mallet since 1956 and joined the MPSC in 1954 while serving in Japan. |
