Citation: Black Watch attached to Kings Own Scottish Borderers. Place KUMGONG-NI- (4266)- Map Sheet 6626 IV, 21/5/1951.Citation: On 21st May 1951, 6 Platoon, B Company, of which Sergeant HAYE was Platoon Sergeant, had been given the task of exploiting forward to feature Point 432 at KUMGONG-NI, on capture of feature Point525 (4368). The leading section of 6 Platoon, having advanced 100 yards beyond Point 325, came under light automatic fire at close range and one man of the sectio0n was wounded. Without waiting for orders, Sergeant HAYE immediately seized a Light Machine Gun and with this weapon and his Sten gun rushed forward alone and killed single handed three Chinese, who were dug in behind a small hill 100 yards ahead of the leading section. Sergeant HAYE's complete disregard for his own personal safety, coupled with his own prompt action and skill, were not only an inspiration to his platoon, which immediately continued its advance, but were probably instrumental in saving further casualties.Recommended by : CO, 1 KOSB, Brig. 28 Commonwealth Brigade.
