Letter in army record dated 25/6/1900 from APM, Curragh Camp to OC Military Police, Aldershot. Sir, I have the honour to request that the NCO named in the margin (564, Cpl Eke MFP) be removed from this station owing to the unsatisfactory manner in which he has lately been performing his duties. During the last 3 months he has, on several occasions, shown a considerable want of tact in dealing with his superiors. His first recorded offence was "insolence to an officer a Major 3 Dragoon Guards acting in his capacity at CO. On the second occasion he addressed several officers (in uniform) leaving their mess and I consequently had to apologize for his conduct. On Saturday evening last I heard him address a Warrant Officer in a very abrupt and disrespectful manner. In addition to the above irregularities I have constantly noticed his resistance to conform to the wishes and orders of his superiors in the police and accept that there are so few permanent staff at present stationed her I often have to rely on him to perform important military duties which might only be entrusted to a senior NCO or reliable policeman. I have no suitable detachment to which I could send him and would therefore urge that he be transferred to a station where he would only be called upon to do town work or street duty.
Robert Eke.

He has the same No. as Cpl M Hellyer, MMP.

Extract from the Nottingham Evening Post 25 March 1904.
THE SOLDIER'S CURLS.
A disposition to display his curls resulted in Private Manning, of the 2nd Buffs, appearing before a district court martial at Dover yesterday, on a charge of striking his superior officer. From the evidence it appeared that Corporal Eke, of the Military Foot Police, had to reprimand Manning in the town for waring his curly locks outside his cap, this being against regulations, Later in the evening the police corporal again met Manning and as he was still displaying the treasured but undisciplinery curls, repeated the reprimand. Manning thereupon struck the corporal in the face with his fist, and became so violent that he had to be carried to the guardroom.
The Court convicted and sentence will be promulgated later.
