Extract from the Ramsbottom Observer - Friday 23 January 1942. IN DUNKIRK BATTLE. DEATH OF MR J VIZZARD OF HASLINGDEN. The death occurred on Sunday at a comparativly early age of 33 years in a pulmonary hospital at Withnell, of Mr John Vizzard of Pleasant Street, Haslingden. Before the outbreak of war he was one of those who saw service with the Automobile Service in the Lake District. On joining up he was a Despatch Rider. He was in the retreat from Dunkirk and has since seen service in the military police before his discharge from the army. He had been in hospital for four or five months and was the son of Mr & Mrs Vizzard. He leaves a widow who in maidenhood was Miss Amelia Nutthall of Crawshawbooth.
