Extract from the Staffordshire Advertiser 11 November 1944. WHEATON ASTON - THE LATE MR. J. FACEY. The funeral of Mr. J. Facey, Bedford Cottage, Wheaton Aston, took place at the Parish Church. Deceased, who was 89 years of age, was a familiar figure in the district where he will be missed by a wide circle of friends, particularly those connected with the Reading Room and the British Legion. He was a native of Goldington Beds, and at the age of 19 joined the 20th Hussars serving eight years with his regiment and taking part in the expedition for the relief of General Bordon at Khartoum. Later he transferred to the Military Mounted Police in Cairo. Among his decorations were the Egyptian Medal and the Khedive's Star, An exceptionally fine shot, he won the military Bisley three years in succession. Leaving the service in 1892 he joined the staff of the Midland Light Railway, at Wolverhampton, on which he served until his retirement at the age of 60, when he went to reside in Wheaton Aston. |
