Citation: | Military Medal Citation.North West EuropeOn the 10 February 1945 in the outskirts of CLEVE Lance Corporal Reid was placed in charge of other NCO's of the CMP and was ordered to establish a traffic control post on the main NIJMEGEN -CLEVE ROAD by which formations of 30 Corps were to advance during OPERATION VERITABLE. By force of circumstances Lance Corporal Reid had set up his TC post beside the road in an area which was already flooded to a depth of several inches. No sooner was the post established than it and traffic passing came under accurate shellfire. During the ensuing days the shelling and flooding became progressively worse, until conditions became so bad, that after 7 days traffic was stopped and Lance Corporal Reid, by now suffering from lack of sleep and exposure, was ordered to close his post.Throughout this period of great hardship and danger Lance Corporal Reid showed a complete disregard for himself and by his determination and devotion to duty was largely responsible for the continuous flow of traffic to the forward troops.Awarded a periodical MM.
