Citation: Citation for MMNorth West EuropeSergeant Evans has served with 11 Armoured Division throughout the whole campaign in North West Europe and has at all times performed his duties in an exemplary manner with complete disregard for his own safety. His duty is to sign the divisional centre line and to do this he always travelled in a jeep close behind the leading tanks and has carried out his duties under heavy shell and small arms fire. In particular during battles between the RIVER MAAS and RIVER RHINE in February/March 1945 when all main roads in the forward area were subjected to heavy enemy shellfire he carried out his duties with remarkable courage. During the advance from the RIVER RHINE to LUBECK the Division moved on very small roads with many complicated turnings where it was very easy for drivers to take the wrong turning. By completely ignoring his own safety and being right forward he was able to sign the centre line and thus materially assist the maintenance of the advance. At all times this NCO's cheerfulness and devotion to duty together with his complete disregard for his own safety have been a complete inspiration to his section.Awarded a periodical MM.
