Casualty List 772/6, Malaya, killed in action, 21/1/1942. Medal card not found. He is listed in the GPO Memorial Book, Aldershot. Adrian Clarence Edric Veal. Extract from the Taunton Courier & Western Advertiser, 14/2/42. Taunton Man Killed on Active Service. Mr and Mrs A E C Veale, of the Parade Rooms, Taunton have been informed that their only son, Lance Corporal Adrian Clarence Edrich Veale, who was serving in the Corps of Military Police, was killed on active service last month. His many friends in the town will learn this news with regret, and sympathy will be extended to his wife and Mr & Mrs Veale in their great loss, Aged 27, Lance Corporal Veale attended North Town School, and on leaving served an apprenticeship at Messrs, Brakes, East Reach. He then joined the Coldstream Guards, and after completing four years service came out on reserve, obtaining Civil Service appointment as a telephonist at Aldershot Post Office. On the outbreak of war he was immediately recalled to the colours and was attached to the Military Police. He served with them in France, and was evacuated when the French Army collapsed. His wife and their young child live at Farnham, Surrey, where he made his home. His only sister, Mrs Ivan Hill, whose husband is serving in the Royal artillery, is at present staying with her parents in Taunton. (name spelt Veal in Army Records and Veale in newspaper). |
