War Diary WO 171/10775, 74 Section, SIB. Bad Salzuflen, 8/4/46. Sgt Southcott of this section murdered by Theo Walasek, Polish DP (Displaced Person), wanted for murder and armed robberies etc in the British Sector. Walsek having being arrested produced a pistol and shot the 3 NCO's who were arresting him. Killing one and seriously wounding the other two. Walsek escaped but was later re arrested. War Diary WO 171/10792 120 Pro Coy, CMP. 8/4/46 Sgt Southcott killed and Sgt's Kingston and Ridge seriously wounded by Pole Theo Walasek at this HQ (Bad Salzuflen) NCO's are from 74 Section SIB at this HQ. 11/4/46 Burial of Sgt Southcott with full military honours and escort. Walasek had been arrested and searched but on leaving the building he picked up his overcoat which had a Walther pistol in the pocket.
