| Citation: | Germany. Citation for BEM: On the 31st March, 1945, a Royal Engineer Sergeant and Sapper detonated an enemy mine at SUCHTELN, GERMANY. The Sapper was killed and the Sergeant seriously injured. Lance-Corporal Hunter, who was on duty at a post on a nearby road ran through an area known to be mined, ascertained that the Sapper was dead and dragged the injured Sergeant out of danger. He then commandeered a WD vehicle and conveyed the Sergeant to hospital. Lance -Corporal Hunter's action showed great courage and complete disregard of personal danger, and his prompt and courageous action was largely instrumental in saving the wounded man's life. Two further mines were found within three yards of the site of the exploded mine. National Archive WO 373/69 Pt.1. |
