50 Traffic Control Company War Diary, WO 166/13665. 10/3/1943 The Company lost one of it's best soldiers who had been missing since 15/2/1943 today, we regret to state that the body of Pte James Hynd had been found in the river Nadder near the Old Mill, Salisbury where he had been stationed. 11/3/1943 Inquest held on Pte James Hynd, the verdict of accidental death by drowning. Capt C H Owen attended the inquest.

7/9/49 He was awarded the War Medal.

Inscription on private gravestone: In loving memory of my dear husband John Hynd, died 22nd March 1942, aged 54. Also my dear son Pte James Hynd, CMP who was accidentally drowned at Salisbury, 15th February 1943, aged 23.
