THE LATE LANCE CORPORAL HUGHES.
The funeral took place at West Hartlepool of L/Cpl John Hughes (25) of the Corps of Military Police who was accidentally killed while serving in another part of the country. L/Cpl Hughes was well known in West Hartlepool and was a member of St. Joseph's Club. He was employed for a time at the Northern Pictures. In 1935 he joined the Coldstream Guards and saw service in Egypt and Palestine. When his army service was ended he joined the Doncaster Borough Police. As a reservist he was called up on the outbreak of war and rejoined his old regiment. he was transferred to the CMP last December and served for a short time in France, His home address was 26 Kimberley Street. The funeral service was held in Stranton Church, in addition to wreaths from relatives and friends, floral tribute were sent by the Directors and Staff of Northern Pictures and officers and NCO's and men of his army unit and Doncaster Borough Police Force.
