Young Home Guards last tribute, to Crewkerne soldier's funeral, Home Guard formed a guard of honour and provided the bearer party at the funeral of L/cl George H Hawker (37) CMP, the son of Mr & Mrs L H Hawker, Hermitage Street who was killed by enemy action in this country. L/Cpl Hawker was mobilised with the Crewkerne Territorials at the outbreak of war and after serving two years with the somerset was transferred to the Military Police. He was employed as an ironmongers assistant, Crewkerne.
The vicar (Preb. Norris) conducted the service at Crewkerne Church which proceeded the internment at the cemetery. The coffin was draped with the union jack and following the last rites at the grave the "The Last Post" was sounded by Sergt. Major Abbot (Home Guard). Besides the family mourners there were many friends present and the floral tributes were numerous .
