Citation: Italy. Citation for BEM: A/WO I (RSM) Pearce, 105 (Army) Provost Coy has served successfully and gallantly throughout the entire Sicilian and Italian campaigns, and previously in the Western Desert and Cyrenaica, as a Section Sjt in a Div Pro Coy. During this long period RSM Pearce has devoted himself so untiringly to his duties wherever he has been stationed that he has overcome time and again many difficult situations. By his tact and conciliatory but firm methods the discipline of British and Allied troops has always been maintained in the area under his control. Further, he has during this period, and in particular since Jan 1945, in addition to his normal duties as RSM been responsible for conducting a number of successful investigations involving civilians. Throughout his service, his work and conduct have been of the highest order; his untiring efforts towards the maintenance of discipline and the prevention of crime and his fine example have always been an inspiration to those under him. He has made a substantial contribution towards successful policing in the Eighth Army, both in operational and disciplinary roles. I can speak from personal knowledge of the work of RSM Pearce since Oct 1941, and strongly recommend him for the British Empire Medal in recognition of his continued outstanding service.Lt-Col J R Archer-Burton OBE DPM Eight Army.
