Extract from the Lancaster Guardian 14/7/1944. KILLED IN LONDON. Corporal Robert Coates of the Corps of Military Police met his death in London on Wednesday of last week. Aged 37, and a native of Carlton he was well known in the Settle district, where for some years he was assistant gamekeeper to the late Col. Birkbeck of "Anley." He resided at Langliffe for a time, where he married Miss Rawsthorne of Low Fold. Removing to Skipton he was employed by Messrs. Carr, Ltd until the outbreak of war when he was mobilised with the Skipton Territorials. His widow and two young children reside at Greatwood Avenue, Skipton. The remains were brought to Skipton on Monday for the internment on Tuesday at Waltonwrays Cemetery, preceded by a service at Skipton Parish Church. Extract from the Bradford Observer - Wednesday 12 July 1944. SKIPTON FUNERAL. The funeral took place at Waltonwrays Cemetery, Skipton, yesterday of Corporal Robert Coates of Greeatwood Avenue, Skipton, whose death occurred as a result of enemy action. The interment was preceded by a service at the Parish Church conducted by the Rev. J C J Wilson. |
