Extract from the Motherwell Times _ Friday2 April 1943. DIED ON SERVICE TRIPOLITANIA. Former Craigneuk Miner.
Mrs Alexander, 13 Charles Street, Graigneuk, has received information of the death of service in Tripolitania of her husband, Lance Corporal Wm, Alexander, Military Police Corps. His death was the result of an accident.
He was previously employed as a miner at Shields Colliery, Motherwell and Hopefield Colliery, Overtown.
Whilst at home he was identified with the Special Constabulary and the Home Guard.
Lance Corporal Alexander served for 12 years in the local territorial company of the R E. He volunteered for the Military Police and had been on overseas service for a year and seven months. He is a son of Mrs Alexander and the late Joseph Alexander, 93 Forgewood Road. Two brothers are in the Forces - one in the RAF and the other in the RE
L/Cpl Alexander leaves a wife and nine year old son.
