MBE Citation: During the past three years, as RSM of the 506 Provost Coy, Sjt-Major Green has rendered outstanding service to the Eight Army and Corps of Military Police while serving in the Western Desert, Cyrenaica, and throughout the entire Sicilian and Italian campaigns. Of especial note is his gallant and successful work for four months on the tracks south of El Alamein, and later his valuable work, much of which was beyond the normal call of duty, in connection with the civil population in Sicily during the early occupation of the island. Throughout the whole period RSM Green has given of his very best and devoted himself whole-heartedly to the maintenance of discipline and prevention of crime in the Army, and, in particular, he has been largely responsible for efficiency, bearing and turnout of the Military Police under command. His personal example and conduct at all times have been of the highest order. The 506 Provost Company has played a big part in the smooth working of the Eight Army's three thousand miles advance from Egypt and in the maintenance of the forward troops druring this long period. The success that has attended the police arrangements, the traffic control, and route signing of this company has, in a very large measure, been due to the guidance and splendid example of RSM Green..Lieut Col J R Archer Burton, OBE, DPM Eight Army.
