Citation: CMP(I). Italy. Citation for BEM: Franks first proved himself a gallant and staunch supporter of his section when in action at CASSINO, Italy during the precarious and hazardous weeks in Feb 1944. This NCO was a member of a forward section of Provost working with Brigade HQ in the much shelled villages of CAIRO and VILLA. For five weeks he unselfishly worked under great strain in all kinds of weather without tiring, often under heavy enemy shell and mortar fire, patrolling the various traffic circuits, assiting broken down vehicles and reporting serious blows to the Engineers. While at Jeep head in this area he assisted muleteers to get rations and ammunition to forward areas, and stretcher bearers to evacuate our wounded. When the Gothic Line was breached at MONTE GRIDOLFO Franks again showed himself an outstanding leader. Always cool and calculating he set the finest example of steadfastness and courage to his comrades. His devotion to duty and utmost cheerfulness has given the confidence of all drivers of this division and is in accordance with the highest traditions of the Corps of Military Police (India).Maj APM 4 Indian Div.
