Citation: Holland. Citation for Dutch Bronze Cross: This NCO was in charge of a section whose task it was to sign the main route behind the tanks from the start line at VAKENSWAARD to EINDHOVEN. This was carried out successfully under heavy shell fire. He worked very hard in assisting to evacuate army and civilian casualties from EINDHOVEN and in keeping the route clear for urgent traffic. Later when the route was continued to NIJMEGEN, he and his section worked extremely hard under constant enemy fire to keep the route open. During the evacuation of the Airborne Division from ARNHEM he, along with his section, were responsible for collecting the troops as they crossed the river, and in the course of this duty he was wounded, and later discharged from the army. During the whole of this period he was an inspiration to the men under his command and carried out his duties without andy regard for his personal safety. Capt A R Kendrick, OC 43 Div Pro Coy.
