| Citation: | Normandy. Citation for the French Croix de Guerre with Vermillion Star: Capt Hunter, commanding the Division Provost Company, landed during the first hour of the operation at ARROMANCHES, Normandy, on June 6 1944. His immediate tasks were to ensure that all beach exits on both Bde. Fronts were manned, and that coloured routes were reconnoitered and marked for the use of the reserve Bdes due to land at H hour plus 2 1/2 hours. These tasks were succesfully carried out in spite of shellfire from heavy guns, and of the barrage of machine guns trained on the beaches. Capt Hunter moved between the two Bde fronts across unswept beaches, and by his presence and coolness greatly encouraged his men under very dangerous and difficult conditions. It was due to the success of his work that both personnel and vehicles were guided to their respective assembly areas without chaos or disorder which would have hindered the operation.
