Citation: Italy. Citation for BEM. During the four months from Sept to Dec 44 in the Divisional battles in ITALY, from the time of the capture of OSPEDALETTO to the final battles for FORLI, Sgt Armstrong was committed with his section with the fwd Brigades. At CORIANO this NCO had to deal with traffic circuits that were particularly difficult to maintain and control but despite the many difficulties of movement, mostly by night, all the convoys routed through this town proceeded under CMP escort and quidance smoothly and without delay. At BERTINORO and CESANA, Sgt Armstrong displayed the same thoroughness and devotion to duty in his dealing with the Police control of these two towns and he was largely responsible, in the early days of the occupation, for maintaining the high standard of good order and discipline that existed amongst the British troops thereSgt Armstrong has further enhanced his reputation by his skilful control of the Div PW Cage in GREECE, where he was responsible for the reception and evacuation of some two or three thousand of ELAS prisoners. In the execution of his duties, often under the most trying conditions, this NCO has earned the highest praise for his control and initiative. This exemplary conduct has undoubtedly been a source of inspiration to his men and has earned him the complete confidence of all Officers with whom he has worked.. Army Form W. 3121. WO 373/73.
