Sergeant Major Gale, who has risen from private in the West Riding Regiment to Warrant Officer in the Military Foot police, has been selected for a commission as lieutenant and Assistant Provost Marshal in Ireland. Mr Gale won the medal for distinguished conduct in the field during the Boer war, when he served on the staff of Lord Roberts, VC. Extract from the Army and Navy Gazette, 1/6/1918. Major A W Gale, Assistant Provost Marshal at Aldershot, who has gone on half-pay, having reached the age limit of 56, was one of the original members of the Corps of Military Police which was formed in 1886.
