War Diary WO 171/390, Guards Armoured Division Pro Coy, 14/15/15 Sept 44: Village of Overpelt. Acting on information from a boy Sgt Howell C and 2656086 Cpl Bridge B rounded up 14 German soldiers hiding in a barn. Cpl Bridge went to the rear door of the barn and Sgt Howell cautiously opened the front door, shouted to them to surrender and saw numerous heads appear from a heap of straw. The prisoners were then disarmed and handed over to 1 Welch Guards.
16/12/49 He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, MID.
