Citation: Italy. Citation for BEM: CSM MACCALLUM P W has at all times given the highest satisfaction and has received the praise of congratulations of numerous high ranking officers, with whom he has come in contact, as a result of investigations he has made. From 20 Oct 43 to March 44 he was in charge of a Detachment located at GIOIA, where he was responsible for a large area. An appreciation of his services was received from Major HAIG, APM 1st Airborne Div. MACCALLUM has since been stationed at TARANTO and BRINDISI and he has continued to carry out his duties in the most exemplary and efficient manner. He personally has been responsible for the recovery of many thousands of pounds worth of WD property. On 29 Jul 44 at the scene of a petrol fire at Brindisi Docks MACCALLUM showed great courage and initiative in organizing and leading a party of 3, who succeeded in salvaging 200 casks of petrol, whilst the firemen played hoses on them.
