Citation: | Military Medal Citation.North West EuropeOn 16 September 1944 during the operation of crossing the ESCAUT CANAL Sergeant Cox and his section were detailed to control traffic on the enemy side of the two newly built bridges. The river banks from which it was necessary to control traffic were under observed fire. Despite fire from the enemy Sergeant Cox remained on the bridge sites and by his coolness, fine example and constant supervision of his section, ensured the smooth flow of traffic. On 18 October 1944 he again displayed courage and devotion to duty in the liberation of VENRAIJIn his handling of refugees, thus keeping the roads clear for urgent operational traffic. During this period he was under heavy shellfire and mortar fire but showing complete disregard for his own safety encouraged his section to carry out their work. These examples are but a few intances of coolness and devotion to duty shown by this NCO during battle.Awarded a periodical MM.
