Decoration Record:
Decoration: Member of the British Empire (London Gazette: 37386 Page: 6061 Dec. 13, 1945)
Citation: Citation: As DAPM 207 Sub Area during operation "Bingham" (involved movement of Air Forces into the Sara area of Yugoslavia between 2 - 30 April 1945 in order to provide air support to Marshall Tito's partisans). April and May 1945, this officer's efforts and tact contributed greatly to the extremely high standard of discipline maintained by the British troops throughout, which was a very large factor in ensuring that harmonious relations with the local Jugoslavs was maintained to the very end, at a time when they had deteriorated elsewhere. I feel it should be taken into consideration also that prior to "Bingham" this officer carried out similar duties with this Sub Area at PIRAEUS, GREECE, last December and January and, later, on 8th Army L of C just prior to their last offensive. at PIRAEUS, these HQ, and localities where staff and services had to work, were frequently subjected to fire from all weapons from small arms up to 105mm guns. Undoubtedly this officer produced an effort greater than merely his normal duties with a Sub Area.Recommended by: Col D A Wilkins, MBE, Commander 207 Sub Area, Brigadier Commanding Land Forces Adriatic.
