Extract from the Cheshire Observer, 19/12/42. Hoole Man's Service in France and Middle East.
In our issue fo December 5th we announced that the "new Zealand Free Lance" had published a photograph of a group of nine men representing seven countries and including an officer cadet from Chester, England. Mr h Pleaving, 95 Pine Grove, Hoole, tells us that he is sure the Chester man referred to is his son Captain Harry David Pleaving, Corps of Military Police. Capt. Pleaving, who was born at Hoole Bank, was educated at Hoole and Newton School and at the age of 16 joined the Cheshire Yeomanry. He served for two years and then joined the Royal Horse Guards (the Blues), with which regiment he fought in France and later went out to the Middle East. After fighting in Syria and Iraq, he went to a cadet school in the middle East when the picture, which appeared in the Newspaper was taken. On passing out he was gazetted in another Regiment, and now having attained the rank of Captain, is attached to the CMP. Mr Pleaving has received a photograph from his son, which we are unfortunately unable to publish, which shews him and his colleagues at the cadet school. The men represent the Royal Horse Guards, four different Australian battalions, New Zealand, Transvaal Scottish, a Scottish regiment, South Africans, and the Royal Engineers. Capt Pleavin was married on November 4th to Miss Nora Hutter, QAIMNSR, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W J Hutter of Sunderland. The wedding tool place at the Church of St. Michael's, All Angels, Heliopolis, Cairo. The bride served in France until the evacuation of Dunkirk.
