Extract from the Dover Chronicle 10 February 1906. INTERESTING PRESENTATION. An interesting presentation took place at the Watch Committee meeting at the Town Hall, on Tuesday afternoon, in the presence of many members of the Watch Committee, when Corporal Angus Johnstone, of the Military Foot Police, was the recipient of a handsome silver teapot, subscribed for by members of the Dover Police Force, for assisting Police Constable Dunford in the execution of his duty. In the absence of the Major, the Deputy Mayor (Councillor H W Thorpe) made the presentation, and alluded to the fact that the police at all ties were ready to recognise outside services, and they were happy to find such good feeling existing between the civil and the military police. He wished to thank the Garrison Military Police for their ever ready assistance at all times. He happened to know this case well, and it was a painful case, because the corporal had suffered, having been taken to the Hospital in an unconscious condition. Had it not been for his noble and plucky help Police Constable Dunford would have been seriously injured. A letter was read from Major Smithett, garrison adjutant, alluding to the good feeling existing between the two forces. Corporal Johnstone in replying said he was proud to have been present to give assistance to the constable. The military police were always ready to give assistance in the call of duty, the same way as the civil police ere always ready to assist them. Inspector Fox on behalf of the force thanked the Deputy Mayor for making the presentation. The teapot bore the following inscription:- "Presented by the Dover Police to Angus Johnstone, Corporal, Military Foot Police, for assisting Police Constable Dunford, 16th December 1905. |
