Citation: No. 2932 Lance Sergeant R Bougett, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment, was mentioned (together with Lance Corporal H Bloomfield) in Lord Kitchener's Dispatch of the 23rd June, 1902, published in the London Gazette of the 29th July, 1902, as a result of his commanding officer's recommendation which was as follows:- As Blockhouse Commanders these two NCO's have throughout shown the greatest energy in completing the defences of the Blockhouse, in every detail, and during the big crossing on the 19th February, 1902, specially distinguished themselves and inflicted great loss on the enemy - being themselves subjected to a very heavy fire from the Boers all round them.
