Citation: Middle East. 543028 WOI Thomas Davis, Royal Armoured Corps (Hussars) (Wadhurst).Citation for DCM: On 23 Jan, after the first phase of operations S.E. of ANTELOT, RSM DAVIS was ordered to tow out and attach an air line to Lieut. SLOAN'S tank which had been damaged in action. He had connected the line and commenced to tow then the area was attacked by about 30 German tanks. Three German tanks engaged the two tanks but Lt. SLOAN'S tank could not fire owing to the danger of breaking the air line when traversing the turret. RSM DAVIS's gunner was temporarily knocked out, but without support he continued the tow, loaded and commanded his tank with complete calm. He put one enemy tank out of action and damaged two others. He brought Lt SLOAN's tank to safety N E of SAUNNU when his own tank broke down. RSM DAVIS displayed calmness and courage of the highest degree and showed complete disregard of danger. In the field 2/2/42.Recommended by Lt Col C B Harvey, OC 10 Hussars, GOC 1 Armd Div, Commander 13 Corps.
