Notes:Provost Officer. Royal Berkshire Regiment. From Littlehampton. OC 105 Pro Coy 1941, APM 86 Area, 1943. History of the Corps of Military Police, S F Crozier, MBE, page 74. "Once the El Alamein line had been consolidated it seemed that the onrush of the Africa Korps had been stopped, but there was still a possibility that if a strong armoured column could make its way to Cairo across the desert a further retirement, this time across the Suez Canal into Palestine, would be inevitable. With this in view the D.P.M. was instructed to reconnoitre and sign two routes, both east of the Amariya - Cairo Road. This task was carried out within twenty four hours by Captains Cashen and Mandy, O.C. 105 Provost Company. Fortunately these measures turned out to be over insurance.

As Company commander he has always managed to keep a firm grip on his men, though often necessarily very widely dispersed. As A.P.M. on entry into TRIPOLI town on 23 Jan 43 up to the time of his relief on 10 Mar 43 he particularly distinguished himself in his administration as head police executive in this captured town, taking charge of police matters civil and military in such a manner that law and order was established from the first day of occupation. A visit of the Prime Minister and many ceremonial parades too place during this period. The police arrangements were in the charge of Major MANDY and on all occasions went without hitch and without at any time interfering with Dock traffic or other movements of military importance.Recommended by Lt Col T C Irvine, DPM Eighth Army, Brigadier ? DAQMG, 8 Army, B L Montgomery Gen. 8 Army.
