| Citation: | Citation: Upon landing by parachute in the airborne invasion of Germany on 24 March 1945, 1st Lt Hudacek immediately formed a patrol to reconnoitre a route to the selected command post for headquarters personnel. The patrol encountered heavy enemy resistance and two men were wounded and unable to reach cover. 1st Lt Hudacek, in the face of heavy and accurate enemy fire, left his covered position and mad his way across an open field to reach the men. He dragged one of the men to safety and then again exposed himself on the fire swept field to reach the other man. During this time, the enemy opposition had succeeded in partially encircling the patrol's position. 1st Lt Hudacek, alone, reconnoitred a route of escape and returned to lead his patrol to safety while carrying the more seriously wounded man in his arms. 1st Lt Hudacek's great personal courage and his calm and unexcitable leadership despite a desperate situation, reflects high credit upon himself.Recommended by M B Ridgway, Commanding XVIII Corps, US Army.
